Title: Critical Junctures in the Evolution of British Party Politics: The 1945 General Election and Its Impact on the Westminster Party System

Abstract: The article examines the 1945 British general election as a critical juncture in the development of the Westminster party system. It argues that Labour’s landslide victory institutionalized Conservative–Labour competition, strengthened the post-war consensus, and established a lasting model of two-party politics.
